TICStalks - Cardiff University
4th of May 2017
TICS TALKS are FREE public lectures on theology and philosophy organized by the Theotokos Institute for Catholic Studies in partnership with universities around the UK. Although the talks are aimed at a broad audience, they remain sophisticated and intellectually engaging. The goal of the talks is to present cutting edge research on ancient theologians and philosophers to audiences that might, otherwise, never encounter their ideas.
The Cardiff University Eastern Christian Chaplaincy is pleased to host TICS TALKS at Cardiff University for the first time! The theme of the lectures this Spring is 'On God & Man'.
Communion & Consiliarity - Oxford University
The publication of Metropolitan John Zizioulas’ monograph Being as Communion over thirty years ago ensured the prominence of communion as a category in eastern Christian theology. Though there has been significant discussion of Zizioulas’ own work, the remit of communion is not restricted to the areas addressed in that book. In this conference, the Theotokos Institute for Catholic Studies provides a form for considering ecclesiological, social, and practical aspects of communion – as well as further theological reflection on that theme. To specify our interest in the theme, we are considering it alongside another key theme that is central to the work of our Institute: conciliarity. It is hoped that the collocation of these themes will catalyse fruitful discussion that will contribute to our mission to promote broad-based, theologically-responsible, and historically-credible reflection upon topics of wide concern to Christians of many heritages.
